The Spearfish Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) welcomes Janice Gbedemah as the corporation’s fall intern.
Janice is an international student from Ghana, West Africa pursuing a degree in economics and finance at Black Hills State University. She is currently a senior with plans of graduating in the spring semester of 2018. Janice will intern with SEDC until mid-December.
“We are delighted to have Janice on the team,” said Kory Menken, SEDC Executive Director. “Internships are a great way for students to demonstrate their leadership talents to future employers, their ability to work well with different types of people and their skills in seeing a project through from start to finish. Additionally, interns can bring with them novel perspectives and fresh ideas.”
As part of her internship, Janice will assist in the creation and distribution of marketing materials, perform economic data collection and analysis, assist with month-end financial reports, writing of press releases as well as assisting in basic office functions. SEDC’s internship is structured to provide the intern with substantial—and transferrable – skills and experience to progress professionally and personally.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the SEDC team,” Janice said. “This experience will serve as an opportunity to assist in business development and the quality of jobs in Spearfish while at the same time developing my professional and personal skills.”
Janice worked at Black Hills Knowledge Network in Rapid City this summer as the Data Services and Social Media intern. She had the opportunity to analyze and interpret wage and housing data as well as work under the organization’s new Regional Economist. Her experience at SEDC and Black Hills Knowledge Network will aid Janice as she plans to pursue a career in economic consulting before attending graduate school for International Economics.
