SPEARFISH – Business Continues to boom in Spearfish, with ground broken on May 23rd at 4315 E. Colorado Blvd. to eventually house a commercial development with multiple businesses on site.
Aaron Schoon, owner of Jake’s Collision Repair and lead partner in the development, described that there would be three buildings on the lot: A 7,000-square-foot body shop, 7,000-square-foot industrial shop rental building, and 3,000-square-foot office building, all of which were designed by Legacy Custom Homes of Spearfish, which would serve as the general contractor and is a partner on the project.
The Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting during the groundbreaking, as well, and Melissa Barth, executive director, told Schoon that the chamber was excited to have the business back in Spearfish and see it expanding.
“We’re just excited to get it going,” Schoon said of the development at the groundbreaking. “Jake’s Collision Repair will be a first-class state-of-the-art facility with industry-leading tools and equipment,” Schoon added in a prepared statement. The family-owned business has been providing services in the Black Hills Since 2009. In 2015, after being located in Spearfish for 4 ½ years, Schoon moved the business to Sturgis.
Millenia Motors, currently located at 410 E. Colorado Blvd.; The Detail Shop, currently located at 3125 W. Fairgrounds Loop; and a third business, which has not yet been revealed, are also locating to the site. The relocation would allow Millennia Motors to increase its inventory, and would allow The Detail Shop to its capacity, according to information provided by Spearfish Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
There are also three 1,800-square-foot shop rentals currently available on the site, which could be combined into one large unit if desired.
“This is yet another exciting development of our growing community,” Kory Menken, SEDC executive director, said in a prepared statement. “At nearly $52 million, the city of Spearfish hit a new record in building project valuations in 2017. It appears we are on track to potentially exceed that mark this year.”
The development is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
