Spearfish Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) recently hosted an informative roundtable discussion
with local business leaders and representatives from Western Dakota Tech (WDT), Black Hills State University, and the Spearfish School District.
The goal of the discussion was to help further identify the workforce training needs of the Spearfish business community and the surrounding area. The input will also help WDT to move forward with their efforts to expand services to the northern Black Hills.
“SEDC recognizes that for Spearfish to maintain a pattern of continued economic growth it is vital that we both increase and properly train our local labor force,” explained SEDC Executive Director Kory Menken. “Our organization is committed to helping ensure our local employers have access to a sustainable pipeline of trained talent now and into the future. We look forward to continuing to work with our private and public partners in strengthening local workforce development and attraction efforts.”
Established in 1968, Western Dakota Tech is the only technical college that serves the western South Dakota region. The programs they offer represent some of the fastest growing professional fields and industries.
“WDT looks forward to a strong partnership with SEDC and the local business community as we identify opportunities to provide top quality technical education to the Spearfish area,” said WDT President Ann Bolman. “Together we can help create the educated labor market needed to promote growth and stability within the northern Black Hills.”
